Chitosan Diet Supplement Review

Chitosan is a diet pill supplement that can dissolve the fat and cholesterol found in your stomach, helping you to lose weight. It works by using shellfish extracts known as Chitosan. This particular extract has been used to help people lose weight for over three decades. The makers of Chitosan claim that it can help you to lose weight in a matter of weeks, but it appears as though this may be far from the case.

Research on Chitosan

The main aim of Chitosan is to absorb fat that's found in the stomach as a way of preventing it from building up in other areas of your body. To test the theory the manufacturers used animals, which resulted in small changes in the animals losing weight. The problem is that the animals in the clinical trials did not lose weight straight away, yet the trial is what Chitosan makers use in order to push their product and back it up with 'evidence'.

However, even if the product did work on animals, there is still question as to whether it will work on humans. This hasn't been answered in a strict trial, since the product was never tested on humans. The initial tests on animals there has been further study into the effects of Chitosan.

The result of this study?

That Chitosan has no effect on humans. This means that if you take it you may not lose weight at all. Back in 1999 the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition conducted a study where its participants were split up into two separate groups. One of these groups took 8 Chitosan pills for 4 weeks, and the other group was simply given a placebo. By the end of the study, both groups had experienced the same amount of weight loss.

Chitosan was placed under a further series of tests by Dr. Stern, the co-founder of the American Obesity Association. The results of those tests also showed that Chitosan does not work for weight loss. Not only this, but it may have a detrimental effect on the body due to the fact that it dissolves vitamins and minerals in the body.

Conclusion

As you can see, the studies that have been done of Chitosan show that it should not be used as a weight loss aid simply because it doesn't work. Not only this, but there have not been enough studies done yet into any possible side effects of the pill. Since Chitosan is made from shellfish extract, it is clear that those with a shellfish allergy should not take the drug. Doing so could result in a serious allergic reaction.

However, Chitosan is not recommended as a weight loss pill at all simply due to the fact that it doesn't work. The good news is that there are a number of other weight loss pills on the market that have the evidence of clinical trials behind them to show that they do really work.
